England forward Courtney Lawes will retire from international rugby at the end of the Rugby World Cup pampanga
The 34-year-old won a 105th cap for his country in the semi-final defeat to South Africa at the Stade de France, confirming afterwards that this tournament would be his last involvement at Test level pampanga
Lawes could feature for a final time in an England shirt in Friday’s third-place play-off against Argentina pampanga
“I think it’s time,” said Lawes, England’s fifth most-capped male player, suggesting that he had a desire to spend more time with his children pampanga
“I’ve done four World Cups, so I’m pretty happy with that pampanga
“The kids are at that age where they need their dad around pampanga
It will be good to be with them more, to provide some well needed structure to the mob pampanga
“It’s a bit of an end of an era, but it’s been a real honour for me to represent England for so long pampanga
I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on pampanga
It’s not always been the ups pampanga
Plenty of downs in there, but I’ve pushed through pampanga
“I’m not an emotional person really, but it’s just been a huge honour for me, to be honest pampanga
To be able to finish with this group is something I’ll treasure forever pampanga

He made his England debut in November 2009, coming on to partner now head coach Steve Borthwick in the second row in a defeat to Australia, and went on to win three Six Nations championships across his career pampanga
Having played most of his career at lock, including starting the 2019 World Cup final at lock, the always-versatile Lawes has been stationed on the blindside for most of the last four years pampanga
A series of impressive performances earned Lawes selection for a second British & Irish Lions tour in South Africa in 2021, and the forward captained his country for the first time against Tonga later that year pampanga
He began this World Cup as England’s skipper while Owen Farrell served his suspension, leading the side to two victories and scoring only his second Test try in the win over Japan pampanga
“I have so many [great memories],” Lawes stressed pampanga
“I think, as hard as it is being away from your family and stuff like that, you almost have another family pampanga
You really feel like that, especially when you’re away in camps like World Cup camps pampanga

I’ll definitely miss the boys, the banter and all the suff we get up to when we’re not training pampanga
“From the last World Cup to this one, with the group of lads we’ve had coming through, I’ve really enjoyed being part of the group pampanga
You can see what it really means for us to play for each other pampanga
“When you come up against teams like South Africa, where everyone thinks you’re going to get slaughtered, and you find another level for each other pampanga
So I’ll miss this group of boys specifically pampanga
“We’ve had a lot of good times with these lads pampanga
I’ll definitely miss pulling the jersey on and giving it everything pampanga
”England will face Argentina in a battle for third place at the Stade de France on Friday night in their final match of the World Cup pampanga
Borthwick has suggested that he is fully intent on winning the game, opening the door for a farewell appearance for Lawes even at the end of a long campaign pampanga
Steve Borthwick has hailed Courtney Lawes’s intelligence and work-rate (Getty Images)The England head coach hailed his vice-captain’s qualities nearly a decade and a half after welcoming him into the Test fold as a player pampanga
Borthwick said: “We could talk about his trademark Courtney Lawes low tackles that cut the attackers down in their path, [but] what I see in Courtney is somebody who covers the ground pampanga
“In crucial moments, he finds himself in the right place at the right time just so often pampanga
That’s a real sign of the intelligence of the player, a sign of the understanding of the player pampanga
“That’s what he continues to do pampanga
[He has] more than 100 caps now, and you can see how hungry he is to help the team by the way he runs pampanga

Captain Rob du Preez’s individual try allowed Sale Sharks to make it back-to-back wins in the Gallagher Premiership as they defeated Leicester Tigers 24-17 at Welford Road pampanga
The Sharks controlled the majority of proceedings, only to be pegged back by Ollie Hassell-Collins’ excellent finish in what was an entertaining encounter pampanga between two of last season’s top-four teams pampanga
Ultimately, however, Alex Sanderson’s side ensured a repeat of the outcome of their semi-final against the Tigers back in May, and made it two straight defeats for their hosts at the start of the new campaign pampanga
Sale were forced into a late change at full-back, with Tom O’Flaherty coming in for Joe Carpenter and the visitors were further rocked by conceding the game’s opening try after eight minutes pampanga
From a ruck, Tom Whiteley fed Jamie Shillcock, whose quick pass allowed Mike Brown, denied by an excellent Du Preez tackle not long before, to finish from a few metres out pampanga
Shillcock failed to convert and the Sharks responded immediately when Gus Warr’s off-load found a galloping Ernst van Rhyn and the back rower timed his pass to send Tom Roebuck under the posts, making Du Preez’s conversion a formality pampanga
The fly-half sent a penalty from 40 metres wide soon after and Sale then had a ‘try’ from O’Flaherty ruled out for a knock-on at the breakdown by Nick Schonert in the build-up pampanga
But the visitors were able to make the most of a sustained spell of pressure when Van Rhyn was adjudged to have touched down after a TMO check, Du Preez adding the extras pampanga
It was then the Tigers’ turn to hit back quickly when captain Hanro Liebenberg barged his way over from close range, with Shillcock’s conversion reducing the gap to 14-12 at half-time pampanga
A simple penalty from Du Preez took Sale’s lead back out to five points early in the second half, a gap that remained after Hassell-Collins knocked on in-goal having got to Shillcock’s kick down the left wing first pampanga
However, Hassell-Collins was able to score just after the hour mark, shrugging off O’Flaherty’s tackle to level the match after he had been put into space by Joe Powell, Shillcock pushing his conversion wide pampanga
Sale almost regained the lead four minutes later when Sam James gathered Sam Bedlow’s pass, only to be held up by a posse of Leicester forwards pampanga
But there was no denying Du Preez in the 69th minute as he took Raffi Quirke’s pass before dummying and going clear to score a try he converted himself under the posts pampanga
Arron Reed almost made the game safe when he knocked on after being tackled by Dan Kelly, but Sale held out for what was a deserved victory pampanga
