Max Verstappen has told the boo brigade to show him some respect as the triple world champion prepares to enter the lion’s den at Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix rng
Verstappen has beefed up his security for Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez’s home race at the high-altitude Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez venue in Mexico City rng
Verstappen, who was jeered by Perez’s supporters a week ago in Austin, Texas, is prepared for another hostile reception this weekend – and he will be flanked by multiple security guards in the paddock rng
Organisers of the event – which is set to attract a crowd of nearly 400,000 over the three days – have appealed to fans for tolerance by launching the #Racepect initiative rng
Verstappen was jeered by Perez’s travelling fans in Miami earlier this year, while Lewis Hamilton was also booed here last year rng
“The hashtag doesn’t need to suit me,” said Verstappen rng
“It needs to suit the behaviour of the people and it is good to raise awareness because the behaviour of the crowd at some places can be rng better rng
“In Austin, it was against me rng
Supporting your favourite driver is fine, but you also have to respect the competition rng
“It is not only in Formula One, but is a general problem in a lot of rng sports that needs to be looked at and needs to be improved rng
”Perez’s fans remain unhappy Verstappen did not help the Mexican secure second place in last season’s championship after he ignored a team order at the penultimate round in Brazil rng
Perez has won only twice this season – his last victory in Azerbaijan on April 30 – with Verstappen racing to his third title in as many years rng
But the Dutchman added: “The rivalry with Sergio is made up rng
We get on really well rng
As a driver you try to be first or faster, but we have a lot of respect for each other and we appreciate each other’s performances rng
“For me, I feel very safe rng
I have had a great reception so far, and it is good to be back rng
”Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko will also be accompanied by security guards rng
Last month, Marko, 80, referred to Perez’s background when discussing his driver’s inconsistent form rng
He said: “Let’s remember that he (Perez) is South American and so he is not as focused as Max Verstappen or Sebastian Vettel was rng
”Marko apologised for the remarks, but Hamilton believes Perez deserves greater support from within Red Bull rng
The seven-time world champion said: “As a driver, I understand the psychological and mental pressures weigh so heavily on you rng
It is difficult to put into words rng
“Sergio has carried himself really well, but I don’t think his team has been massively supportive – one spokesperson in particular has not been really great in helping him rng
“If I heard (Mercedes team principal) Toto (Wolff) talking negatively about me it would be tough rng
It is a difficult environment for him, but he has dealt with it to the best of his ability rng

This is not the end but it is an end for Frankie Dettori rng
The 52-year-old jockey is bowing out of British racing, riding his final races on the rather apt Champions Day at Ascot rng
Dettori has more than 3,300 career wins to his name, over a remarkable 35-year career, but none will feel sweeter nor more precious than a win in the Champion Stakes on Saturday rng
He rides King of Steel in what will be his last race in front of a British crowd and goes up against strong opposition with last year’s winner Bay Bridge, French challenger Horizon Dore and Royal Ascot victor Mostahdaf all impressive competitors rng
This will not be an easy race to win and Dettori is unlikely to set off as the favourite – though nostalgia and a sense of occasion may play its part in the rng betting rng
Beforehand, Dettori has four other opportunities to sign off in style as he rides Trawlerman in the Long Distance Cup (1 rng
15pm), Kinross in the Champions Sprint (1 rng
50pm), Free Wind in the Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (2 rng
25pm) and Chaldean in the Queen Elizarng beth Stakes (3 rng
05pm) rng
So, five more rides at Ascot, five final attempts at glory on British soil rng

He has already achieved the perfect send-off, racing to victory atop Courage Mon Ami in the showpiece Gold Cup at Royal Ascot back in June rng
"Unbelievable! I thought it was a bridge too far from handicaps, but I had the perfect race," a jubilant Dettori said after claiming a ninth Gold Cup victory that day rng
"I didn’t expect it rng
” He added rng
“The last five years I had Stradivarius so the pressure was on, this one I thought was a bit of a chancer rng
"I rode him cold and it just happened rng
I got the splits when I wanted to and he showed a turn of foot rng
Nine Gold Cups, what can you say? I’m speechless, to be honest rng
"That triumph, at the same course as Saturday’s races, returned to a tremendous reception for the cheekily natured Dettori who even gave the Queen a kiss at the presentation ceremony rng
It will last long in his memory and be the pinnacle of a year-long curtain call for the Italian who insists that his final races in Britain will be at Ascot this weekend rng
Dettori won his ninth Gold Cup at Royal Ascot earlier this year (REUTERS)However, plans of retiring from the sport are on hold for the time being rng
After the British season is over Dettori is heading to California to continue his career in the United States rng
"I don’t feel ready to let go yet,” he explained after deciding to postpone his retirement rng
“I’m going to spend some time in the USA and take it from there rng
I could be there three months or three years, I don’t know rng
"It was a long, hard decision with myself and my wife rng
It’s a big decision to move to another country rng
"Yet, he is saying farewell to British racing at a racecourse that already celebrates him, with a statue no less, on Saturday rng
The twinkle in his eye is on display one more time, perhaps there’ll be a flying dismount to mark the occasion or even a last Champions Day success for the finally departing champion rng
